What is the Site Ion Exchange Plant (SIXEP)?
SIXEP filters and removes radioactive isotopes – such as Caesium and Strontium – from water that’s been used in nuclear operations across the Sellafield site so that those isotopes aren’t discharged into the sea.

Lincolnshire County Council’s new Executive has voted to withdraw from Nuclear Waste Services’ Community Partnership – killing plans to store nuclear waste in the county.

New council Leader, Cllr Sean Matthews, has announced the move which has dealt the deathblow for plans to site a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) in Lincolnshire.

New picture show Hinkley Point C’s progress as teams at the new nuclear power station get ready to lift the domed roof onto the second reactor building this summer.

The image show that construction of Unit 1’s buildings is almost complete, as the installation of equipment accelerates inside. Meanwhile the second unit, which was stopped during the pandemic, is catching up with its 245-tonne dome due to be lifted over the summer.  This will allow it to move into its fit-out phase.

We have been awarded a three-year contract to prepare for the first nuclear defueling of a decommissioned Trafalgar Class submarine in over 20 years. The operations will take place at our Devonport facility in Plymouth, marking a significant milestone in the UK’s Submarine Dismantling Project.
