The Works Permit Engineer ensures that all work carried out on the nuclear site is controlled, compliant, and executed safely through the effective operation of the permit‑to‑work system. You will maintain and enforce Standard Operating Procedures, issue and review permits, and carry out audits to ensure full adherence to company and client requirements. This role demands strong organisational skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work confidently in a fast‑paced, safety‑critical environment.

Job Responsibilities

Permit Control & Compliance

  • Issue permits in a timely and accurate manner to support safe and efficient site operations.
  • Review, approve, or reject permit applications that do not meet required standards.
  • Ensure all permits and associated records are retained for the required period to support audits and incident investigations.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and ensure they are consistently applied across all permitted work.

Auditing & Assurance

  • Conduct site audits to verify compliance with company and client procedures, processes, and safe systems of work.
  • Initiate additional audits where required to maintain high standards of safety and procedural adherence.
  • Provide clear feedback and support corrective actions where non‑compliance is identified.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the permit‑to‑work team, site personnel, and client representatives.
  • Act as a point of contact for permit‑related queries, offering guidance and support to ensure safe and compliant work execution.
