Piping Designers are responsible for delivering practical, fit‑for‑purpose engineering design solutions that meet project specifications, budgets, and schedules. The role requires ownership of assigned work, strong technical capability, and the ability to produce high‑quality piping design documentation. The role holder will also support and promote company and client expectations around HSEQ, best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement, while maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders. Maintaining up‑to‑date technical knowledge and competence is essential to align with client and industry requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Design Production

Produce new and update existing detailed mechanical and piping design documentation, including:

  • Piping isometrics
  • Fabrication drawings
  • Routing layouts
  • Assembly drawings
  • General arrangements (GAs)
  • 3D models
  • Piping schedules, line lists, valve schedules
  • Bills of material (BOMs)
  • Calculation records

Ensure all design outputs are practical, constructible, and aligned with project requirements.

Standards & Compliance

  • Comply with national standards, site standards, and all relevant engineering procedures.
  • Ensure all work adheres to company and client processes, including design control, project control, documentation control, procurement, and verification.

Site Surveys & Fieldwork

  • Carry out site surveys and walkdowns, including working at height where required.
  • Conduct field measurements, identify tie‑ins, and verify existing system conditions.
  • Update and maintain plant drawings in accordance with the Management of Change (MOC) process.

Constructability & Problem‑Solving

  • Perform and support constructability reviews to ensure designs support efficient fabrication, installation, and maintenance.
  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve design issues, engaging with relevant stakeholders to agree solutions.

Documentation & Work Packs

  • Compile and maintain document work packs to support construction and installation activities.
  • Ensure all work is completed professionally, accurately, and in line with project expectations.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Discuss design issues, constraints, and solutions with engineers, project teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Support related activities such as estimating, handover preparation, and procurement coordination.
