Industrial Painters are responsible for applying a wide range of industrial liquid coatings—often involving multi‑coat systems—to manufactured products in accordance with OEM specifications and customer requirements. The role requires strong knowledge of surface preparation techniques, coating types, application methods, and quality control processes to ensure durable, compliant finishes.
Industrial Painters must demonstrate a thorough understanding of protective coating systems, safe working practices, and the correct use of access equipment, tools, and materials.
Surface Preparation & Pre‑Coating Activities
- Perform power‑washing and other pre‑painting activities to prepare components for coating.
- Carry out all forms of surface preparation, including hand and mechanical methods.
- Understand the fundamentals of blasting and assist with blast setup when required.
Coating Application
- Apply a variety of industrial coatings, including single‑coat and multi‑coat systems, to fabricated metal products.
- Use appropriate application methods such as brushing, rolling, and assisting with spray equipment setup.
- Apply coatings in confined spaces while adhering to all safety requirements.
Quality Control & Compliance
- Use instrumentation to measure coating parameters (e.g., wet/dry film thickness, environmental conditions) to ensure compliance with OEM specifications.
- Understand the purpose of quality control checks and accurately record inspection results.
- Report equipment malfunctions or process issues to the supervisor promptly.
Material Handling & Equipment Support
- Assist in rigging and moving large components safely during the coating process.
- Suggest tools, equipment, or process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Follow all safety regulations, including OSHA and HazMat procedures for handling and storing materials.
- Use access equipment such as scaffolding and mobile platforms safely and correctly.
- Adhere to all site health and safety requirements and promote safe working practices.
