The Fire Safety Advisor is responsible for overseeing and accepting fire safety strategy documentation, system designs, zoning reports, drawings, and supporting technical evidence. The role conducts surveillance activities and provides expert review of fire safety analysis produced by the responsible designer, ensuring compliance with UK nuclear safety requirements.

The Fire Safety Advisor plays a key part in ensuring that fire safety standards are embedded throughout design, construction, and configuration management processes, supporting the safe and compliant delivery of the project.
 

Job Responsibilities

Technical Review & Fire Safety Assurance

  • Review and assess fire safety analysis, fire strategies, zoning reports, and supporting documentation to confirm compliance with UK nuclear safety requirements.
  • Model and analyse the impact of hazards—primarily fire and explosion—on overall plant safety.
  • Define fire safety requirements in line with relevant regulations, standards, and project needs.

Safety Case & Design Support

  • Develop and author relevant sections of the nuclear safety case relating to fire safety.
  • Monitor design changes arising from suppliers and construction activities, ensuring fire safety requirements remain fully integrated.
  • Support the closeout of design configuration issues, including Open Points and Design Changes.

Configuration & Change Management

  • Assess and ensure implementation of Referential and Design Changes generated through the Configuration Management Board.
  • Support the definition of fire‑related requirements that enable an industrialised, construction‑friendly approach.
  • Assist in closing out open points related to fire safety requirements.

Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify issues, develop solutions, make recommendations, and drive actions through to closure.
  • Provide technical input to improve fire safety processes, documentation, and design integration.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide progress updates to the Engineering Manager and support reporting requirements as needed.
  • Undertake any additional duties assigned by the Engineering Manager or Project Engineering Lead.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, construction, and safety teams to ensure fire safety requirements are understood and applied consistently.
