The Estimator supports the Proposals Manager and wider management team by preparing accurate, well‑structured, and timely cost estimates for a range of projects. The role requires strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of engineering drawings, and the ability to interpret contractual requirements. Estimators play a key part in ensuring scope, time, and cost are fully understood, while contributing to continuous improvement and maintaining a strong focus on safety and customer satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities

Estimating & Proposal Development

  • Analyse engineering drawings, specifications, and scope documentation to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Prepare well‑organised estimates and proposals for various contract types, including fixed price, target cost, and reimbursable arrangements.
  • Produce detailed activity schedules in WBS format based on issued information (EOs, drawings, scope of works, etc.).
  • Provide clear and detailed quantity take‑offs to support estimate development.
  • Support project managers and engineers with site‑based estimating requirements.

Commercial & Contractual Understanding

  • Interpret and apply contractual terms and conditions within estimates.
  • Organise, compare, and negotiate subcontractor quotations to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Monitor progress and prepare quotations for compensation events when required.

Risk, Opportunity & Cost Control

  • Identify risks and opportunities, compiling and costing risk registers.
  • Formulate cost breakdowns from estimates to support project monitoring and control.
  • Assist in the handover of secured contracts to delivery teams, ensuring clarity of scope and cost assumptions.

Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Ensure site personnel receive the necessary works information and scope documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and cost expectations.

Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure all estimating activities are carried out with a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Contribute to customer satisfaction by understanding and exceeding client expectations.
