The Coatings Technical Manager provides expert technical guidance and support to coatings teams and wider multidisciplinary groups, including Project Managers, Technical Leads, and Quality Leads. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the role acts as the central point for complex coatings‑related issues, ensuring technical consistency, informed decision‑making, and alignment with project governance.

The role also supports and reports into the Paint Topic Group—an established forum for technical discussion, decision‑making, and alignment across the project’s coatings strategy.

Job Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Expertise

  • Act as the delivery‑facing focal point for investigating and progressing coatings‑related topics, providing authoritative technical guidance and escalation support beyond routine operations.
  • Provide assessments, recommendations, and technical advice to site teams and the Paint Topic Group to support confident, evidence‑based decision‑making.
  • Conduct autonomous investigations into complex or cross‑cutting issues, engaging directly with contractors, paint vendors, and specialist technical groups as required.

Paint Topic Group Support

  • Support the Coatings Chair in preparing and facilitating Paint Topic Group meetings.
  • Contribute to agenda development, documentation, and maintenance of the Topic Tracker.
  • Ensure technical matters are clearly articulated and aligned with project governance processes.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coatings strategies are understood, implemented, and continuously improved.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and maintain alignment across delivery teams.

Strategic & Programme Support

  • Contribute to wider action plans and initiatives related to high‑impact elements of the project’s coatings strategy.
  • Support the development of consistent technical approaches, standards, and best practices across the programme.
